Ocean Sailing Academy (OSA, est. 1997) offers adult sailing instruction from Intro-To-Sail and Basic Keelboat through Ocean Passage Making. More than 1,000 sailors each year pass through our Charleston South Carolina sailing school to graduate from OSA sailing courses.

Only 4 students per instructor.

-More Time on the water.
Class time is spent sailing. Additionally, our courses are unusually long in duration. Basic Keelboat runs for a total of 6 days (vs. the standard 3 to 4 days) so that you have the opportunity to learn the complexities of sailing in conditions governed by tides, winds and currents, and the added bonus of experiencing the on-water navigational aids of a commercial harbor.

Our teaching boats range from 26 foot Colgates designed specifically for teaching, to fully outfitted 55 foot ocean going yachts.

Charleston's warm climate and its broad, shallow waters provide a comfortable backdrop to the constant challenge of tides, winds, river currents and offshore conditions, all of which develop students' sail planning and close-quarters maneuvering.

In addition to extensive on-water time, our sailing courses are augmented with Focus Classes which provide you supervised time to work on strengthening specific skills. On-water time also includes weekly student-crewed harbor races and bareboat charters. Past students are welcome in Refresher Courses.

As the only sailing school in the country that offers a Transatlantic Crossing for the Ocean Passage Making course as well as frequent trips to the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and Bermuda for the Coastal Passage Making course, OSA is proud of graduating highly competent sailors.
